St Louis Keep winning rum going
I was a good day for the St Louis Senior in Galway last Monday when they beat the home side Colaite Iognaid. It was a very open game played on good terms..
Louis started off the game well with a few early shots but none troubled the Jes goalkeeper. Then against the run of play in the 21st minute the Jes won a corner . From the resulting corner the Jes winger Marcus Mcdonagh headed the ball in the direction of the Louis goal and the ball rebounded of the post into the Louis goalie hands but to everybody amazement the ref allowed the goal. This really spurred Louis into life . Five minutes later midfield general Colin Gill played a lovely through ball into attacking midfielder Robbie Gill who slided  the ball under the onrushing goalie to level the game.  The game toyed  and froyed for the while. Then a lovely bit of interplay between Louis striker Mark Byrne and midfielder Colin Gill ended in Gill rolling the ball into the back of the net. Jes then went on the attack. Another corner then resulted for the Jes.  The corner was swung in towards the back post when some more slack defending from Louis led to the Jes midfielder Cian Maher volleying the ball high into the roof of the net.  The game was then in the melting pot coming to the end of the half. Midfielder Gill then popped out of nowhere from a corner. He nonchalantly flicked the ball into the back of the net. Giving  Louis a 3 – 2 lead at Half time.
Louis came out of the blocks at a ferocious pace at the start of the second half. Not even two minutes were going when attacking midfielder Robbie Gill latched on to a pull back to the edge of the box from winger Callum Turtill. Robbie swepped the ball into the far corner of the net. The jes then tried to attack but were repelled but some stout defending from Louis. The one time they did get in behind the defense Louis goalie Adam Byrne made a fine save.  Louis were still on the lookout for another goal. R Gill came close when he hit the post and the other shots from Louis came close but just didn’t go in. Finally in the 70th minute Louis got their last goal when winger Liam Byrne slid the ball through the Jes defense and strike Mark Byrne finished it in style. The game petered out then went a resolute Louis defense holding out for the final 20 minutes. In the end a great result for Louis getting in to a Connacht Quarter Final.
