The old saying take your points and the goals will come was certainly on display last Tuesday night in the Wicklow hurling championship.


Glenealy were on top from the start from the game when almost immediately centre forward David Nolan weaved his way through the arklow defence before kicking the ball into the back of the net.  Glenealy then scored two more points from play through centre forward James Manley Arklow then got on the scoreboard through a free from wing forward Jason Redmond before glenealy got another score through roaving wing forward Lee Kavanagh. Arklow then kicked into gear with a score from play from full forward TJ Byrne then centre forward Conor Doyle played a dangerous ball into the glenealy square and full Forward Byrne got a vital touch on the sliotar to direct it into the back of the net. Glenelay attack then started to come out on top scoring three unanswered points starting with a Paul o Brien free before o Brien then got one from play. Corner forward glen o Gorman then nailed another fine score from play.Arklow midfielder Paddy Mellon then nailed a fine long range score. Glenealy then landed a second sucker punch when the ball was loose around the Arklow goalmouth wing forward Ben o Neill got on the ball and put it into the Arklow net. The teams traded scores just before the break with Redmond getting a free for arklow before Nolan got a point from play Arklow got one more point from play just before the break from Byrne. Leaving the score 1-5 to 2-7 going in at the break.


The second half continued in the same vein as the first with Glenealy coming out on top in most areas of the field. Centre Forward Nolan got another fine score from play before centre back Gary Byrne hit a monster score from way out the field. Arklow kept plugging away at the scoreboard with points from play from the aforementioned Redmond and Byrne .Glenealy started to empty their bench and this made an immediate impact when sub Alan Conyard scored a lovely point from play. Byrne got another score for arklow. Glenealy then got three unanswered scores including a goal from wing forward Kavanagh and points coming from Nolan and Manley. Arklow then got a very late consolation goal through sub Danny Curran As the final whistle was about to low Conyard got the final score of the game from play.
