Pearse Park

A very strong second half performance gave Arklow a great win over Kilcoole in the Intermediate league.

The game started off at a flying pace with Kilcoole dominating the play with Midfielder Ronan Keddy and corner forward Luke Evans getting two early points from play. Then against the run of play Arklow centre forward T.J Byrne went on a meandering run through the Kilcoole defence before putting the ball into the back of the net. In reply to that goal Kilcoole went straight back on the attack and after a long ball was played into their full forward line. Full Forward Gary Coady plucked the ball out of the air and buried it into the back of the net. In reply Arklow got two quick fire points coming from Cian Doyle from play before midfielder Paddy Mellon got a score from a free. Scores were coming quick and fast from both sides with Kilcoole getting two fine scores from play from there midfielders Eoin and Ronan Keddy.  Both sets of midfielders were bossing the game. This resulted in Arklow midfielder Paddy Mellon getting two points one from play and one from a free. Kilcoole wing forward Kris Farrell then scored a monster score from out the field. The aforementioned Evans and Keddy got two more scores from play for Kilcoole. T J Byrne stemmed the flow of Kilcoole with a lovely score from play. Just before half time Kilcoole went on a scoring spree scoring four unanswered points before half time with midfielder Ronan Keddy getting two of them  along with midfield partner Eoin getting another and centre back Ciaran Doyle hitting an inspirational score from long range. The final blow of the first half for Arklow was when Ronan Keddy got the ball on the 21 yard line and buried a ball into the back of the net. Leaving the score 1-5 to 2-11 at half time.
The second half started off with a score each from frees one from Paddy Mellon before Ronan Keddy got one in reply. Arklow then hit a purple patch scoring 2-2 without reply. The first goal coming from midfielder Mellon before two point’s one coming from the Mellon and the other coming from corner forward Jimmy Dignan. T J Byrne then got another goal to help in this mini revival. The two teams then started trading score with R Keddy starting the scoring before wing forward for Arklow Conor Doyle hitting a magnificent score from out on the sideline.  R Keddy hit another from play in reply T J Byrne got one back for Arklow. E Keddy then hit over another score for Kilcoole. Before Arklow got two points in reply from Dignan and a free from the 21 yard line which Mellon could have went for goal but instead put it over the bar. This point levelled the game.  Kilcoole then went on the attack and after some indiscipline from Arklow R Keddy hit three frees over the bar. Just as we thought this was the winning of the game Arklow sent a long ball in towards the Kilcoole goal mouth and after a bit of a scramble Jimmy Dignan pulled on the ball and went into the back of the net Arklow then went on one last attack and one a free which P Mellon duly slotted over the free to win the game for Arklow.
