Junior A Football Championship Round 2
From the opening few minutes it was clear to
see that both sides would find it difficult to score from play as the defenders
seemed to be getting the better of their opponents.
The deadlock was finally broken after five
minutes with an Adam Keegan effort for the home side. As the half went on Bray pushed forward and
took the lead with two dead balls off the boot of Niall McGraynor. It was then
the turn of Conor Phelan to equalize for his side. Another McGraynor free gave
his side the lead before Alex Kavanagh fired over his first point of the day
leaving the sides level at the break.
After the interval Kavanagh doubled his
account as he was starting to find his feet inside. Bray’s midfielder Adam
Prunty was then shown the line for an off the ball incident early in the half.
Both sides then landed frees with McGraynor and Phelan slotting over. The home
side then hit a purple patch firing a goal and four points in an eight-minute
spell with two minors from Conor Lambert and a Mick Brennan effort as he drove
from midfield, Dean Newsone then found his range with a great effort. This was
in between a goal from a penalty from Alex Kavanagh. A final McGraynor effort
this time from play reduced the gap slightly before his teammate Evan Barry
palmed into the net to ensure a nervy finish. This was until Kavanagh once again
stepped up for his sides, netting twice in the final minutes of play to give
his side a deserved victory.
After the final whistle the referee gave a
second yellow to Conor Phelan as both sides left the field of play.
