After having drawn last week Annacurra needed
to win this third-round tie and this they did with the aid of Frank Clune and
Gearoid Murphy, who did not start last week's tie.
After winning the toss Annacurra managed to
open the scoring with a Ronan Brenna effort that split the posts. Within a
minute the opposition had the tie level when Eric Olohan found his range from
the edge of the exclusion zone. Both forward lines inside lines were looking
dangerous as James Doyle fired over to give the south Wicklow side the
advantage once again. The opposition then hit a purple patch with four scores
in between a Frank Clune effort. The full forward line all got on the score
sheet with Andrew Nolan firing over a place ball and Mark Cullen slotting over
alongside an effort from Olohan to double his tally. The final score of this
flurry for Laragh saw John Nolan open his account for the day. As the midway
point of the half drew closer a Gearoid Murphy effort along with Euan Harper
finding his range had leveled the contest. From midway to the end of the half
it was all the side in green and gold as Murphy slatted two efforts, before
Clune and Glenn Austin got in on the act. With the final kick of the half the
gap had narrowed to three when Andrew Brancanto hit a forty-five.
When the contest resumed Clune extended the
gap with two dead balls as it looked like Laragh were in trouble. This was not
the case as they managed to narrow the gap considerably with midfielder Damien
Hanlon raising a white flag alongside Cullen and Nolan before John Murphy got
his name on the scoresheet. It was Clune who stepped up again to stem the time
this time with an effort from play. The final scores of the game for Annacurra
came from that man Clue adding two more before substitute Kevin Healy made an
immediate impact. The opposition were going for goals as the tie entered the
final minutes, but Annacurra held strong as John and Andrew Nolan fired over
efforts. Laragh could not manage to break through the defense to score that all
important goal as the opposition held out for a three-point victory.
