Kilcoole vs Kiltegan Junior C Championship

The first round of the Junior C Championship took place up in Balinakill on Thursday night. Anyone in attendance witnessed a tight tense affair between two evenly matched sides.

Kilcoole flew out of the blocks from the first whistle scoring a goal within the opening few minutes, when wing forward Patrick Woods drove down the wing and fired the ball into the net. Wing back Darren Bourke added there first white flag to extended Kilcoole lead. Eoin Byrne responded for Kiltegan before his teammate Joey Maher added his sides second score to narrow that gap. Conor Scullion extended Kilcoole lead with the first free of the game before the first water break.

 Kiltegan notched there first free of the game through there centre forward Anthony Furlong before Kilcoole’s Jason Walsh added a second free for his side before Kiltegan kicked into gear. They scored 1-2 with no response before the half time whistle. Darren Hobson rifled into the back of the net for his side before he added a point from play. Furlong notched his second point this time a long-range effort from play to extend his sided lead before the break.

Kilcoole opening to the second half was nearly a carbon copy to the first as they made the umpire raise the green flag for a second time. This time Jonathan Maguire finished well after some patient build up play. Joey Maher and Coady traded white flags from play. Hobson added another point to his and his sides tally before Eoin Byrne slotted between the posts. As the game tensed up just before the water break. An off the ball scuffle led to players being sent off on both sides. Furlong for Kiltegan and his counterpart Tyrone Houlahan. Leaving the narrowest of margins going into the final quarter.

Hobson slotted over his sides final score of the game with a pointed free after the water break. Kilcoole now two points down piled forward, they managed to level the score Peter O’ Brien, before James Scullion levelled the game with the final point of the game.
