Ashford
outscore Avondale to win the u11 final early Saturday morning in Avoca.
Ashford
started as they meant to go on from the opening whistle scoring 1-3 without any
reply before the first water break.
Tiernan O’ Connell raised the first white flag before Rian Gledhill and
Kale Conyard added points. The first major of the game came from Jude Lawlor
before the whistle to close the first quarter.
The 2nd
quarter carried on in the same vein with the black and ambers adding three more
white flags through Conyard and Gledhill again while Alex Healy opened his account.
Avondale responded with Will Phelan opening there scoring with a minor before
Eoghan Doyle added a second minor.
The third
quarter was another score fest from Ashford with another 1-5 being added to
there total. The goal came from Gledhill, with the same man adding another
minor score along with Rhys Behan and Lucas Lally. Conyard finished the scoring
with a fine long-range score. Matt Byrne responded in kind with a point for the
opposition. Healy notched the final score of the quarter for Ashford.
The final
stages of this game were much more enjoyable with both sides trying to equal
each other out. Ashford added another 3 majors and a point in response to 3
consolation points for Avondale.
