 Arklow CBS travelled up to the hallowed turf of Donnybrook on Wednesday evening to play in the schools first ever Leinster rugby final .With nearly perfect conditions for a final this was going to be a great spectacle for anyone in attendance.

The first quarter of the game was a kicking battle between the two teams. CBS managed to engineer a penalty in the 7^th minute. Which was duly converted by fly half Conn Kinsella to give his side an early lead. St Mary’s then started to gain a foothold and after a break from a defensive  scrum. The fly half  Rory Allen ran under the posts  which he converted himself . There 2^nd try of the game came in the 21^st minute through  outside centre Stephen Cox , with Allen adding the extras again. CBS were piling pressure on the try line but some resolute defending from Edenderry kept them out . With the game heading to half time some more pressure resulted in a Oran Kelly try scoring effort deemed held up by the officials . With 5 minutes to go in the half the St Mary’s full back Paidí Farrell  used his quick feet and lightning speed to go from his own 22 to score under the posts. Allen slotted the extras before the half time whistle.

The 2^nd half was a much cagier affair with both defences on top until midway through the half when Edenderry’s  number 8 and captain Cian Conroy burrowed his way over. Allen did the needful again for his side.  St Mary’s added a 4^th try  in the contest with Cox adding a 2^nd try to his name scoring in the corner again. Allen expertly drilled conversion through the post . Arklow finished the game stronger even with 13 players on the pitch at one point . Oran Kelly managed to get his name on the try scoring list with a powerful run. With the game in it’s final play the CBS pushed forward in search of a second try which their efforts would have deserved . Unfortunately, they were turned over by the opposition who managed through Fionn O’ Grady to cross the whitewash for the final time in the game .

 Arklow Town overcame Lusk United  on Sunday evening in what was a free scoring cup game .

After a frenetic opening few minutes of the game the home side started to control the ball in the midfield which resulted in them getting the first couple of chances in the half

After four minutes of the game Abby Healy broke through the defence but her early effort from a narrow angle was saved well by the Lusk net minder. Arklow were controlling the ball more and midfielder Lucy Kindlon lofted a ball over the defence which Ciara Lancaster latched onto. As she touched the ball around the keeper the angle narrowed her shot hit the butt of the post.

In nearly the same play Healy broke through again and similar to her teammate her effort from a tight angle rattled the post to keep the game scoreless.

The first goal of the game after 13 minutes against the run of play when Emma Walsh broke onto a long ball from the Lusk defence to finish neatly into the bottom corner .   Arklow kept the pressure on with Nadine Kelly in goal  keeping Healy out again before they managed to level the tie.

Jodie Walsh broke down the wing as the home side piled forward,as she cut inside the opposition defence her curling effort from the edge of the box nestled in the far corner to level the game.

After the early flurry of chances from both sides the game fell into a lull for the next ten minutes with both sides cancelling each other out.  Twenty minutes in Healy made another burst down the wing and started making her way towards the end line . As she got there, she managed to square it to Lizzy Bourke who slotted into the net expertly.

Chances became few and far between as the half moved on until Lusk won a free about forty yards out . They cleverly lofted the ball over the defence and after a mix up in the Arklow defence they were awarded a penalty.  Winger Annie Boardman stepped up to the spot and levelled the game with a well taken penalty into the bottom corner . The half petered to its conclusion then leaving the sides level at the break.

Straight after the whistle Arklow piled forward again and after a mix up Healy finally managed to get her name on the score sheet finishing well from the edge of the box. Chances were few and far between after the 3^rd goal as both defences were clearing ball after ball .

As I say that Abby Healy pressured a defender coming out with the ball, she disposed them and casually finished into the goal to virtually kill the game of as a contest in the 60^th minute.

From there to the final whistle Arklow were in complete control with Lucie Kindlon showing plenty of nous to keep the ball the way from the opposition .

Lusk did try to push forward but Farrin Wholohan and Amy Morgan held them out expertly to finish off any last chance that Lusk had to narrow the final score .

Michael Hogans come out on top against their ex-teammates and current school mates in what turned out to be a tougher encounter than expected after the first water break in Avoca on Sunday morning.

Michael Hogans opened the scoring in this encounter through corner forward Alex Olohan who turned on a six pence before firing over the bar . From the resulting kick out Aughrim broke forward and were awarded an early penalty after Dara O Sé was fouled in the square . Adam Keegan stepped up to take the penalty . His effort was well saved by Danny Morley who got his hands to the ball directing it over the bar. Hogans started to pile the pressure on after that early scare. The pressure resulted in a goal and five points  without reply. Three of these points came from dead balls from the boot of Cormac McGraynor , he also added an effort from play .Midfielder Shane Browne started to control the ball in the middle of the park. This control ended up him firing over the bar before bursting through the defence just before the water break to hammer the ball into the net to extend his sides lead.

After the first break the side wearing Avoca jerseys added to more scores with Olohan from play before McGraynor slotted another dead ball .Aughrim were finding it tough to make it out of there own half at this stage . Centre forward Adam Keegan made his way passed numerous defenders before narrowing the gap. Olohan who was very tricky to handle in the inside line added to his scoring with two efforts that could have ended up in the net but flew over the bar . Keegan efforts were keeping his side in the game slotting over another point from range . It was then third time lucky for Olohan who eventually found the net just before the half time whistle

After the break Aughrim evened  the numbers on the pitch and this changed the game dramatically as they started to gain a foothold around the park  They started to narrow the gap between the sides with some well taken efforts Oisin Keegan opened his tally before his namesake Adam added another to his tally before Dara O Sé opened his account for the day. Browne made tapped over for his side against the run of play in this quarter to stem Aughrim momentum. The aforementioned Keegan, who was in great form, knocked over two more dead balls to get his side closer to the opposition before the second water break

With the gap narrowing minute by minute the final quarter was a much tenser affair. Hogans added another solitary effort to their tally with a free from Adam Arslan  Aughrim were stringing some great moves together one of these ended up in Keegan arms whose daisy cutter of a shot flew into the bottom corner. Keegan was running the show at this point firing over another great effort from play. Arslan fired a second free over in response to Keegan’s efforts. The final two scores of the game both came from new players adding to there teams’ efforts. Joseph McGuickan fired over Aughrim last point from play . With Cathal Baker making sure of his sides victory with a twenty-one yard free .

 St Anthony’s came out on top by two goals  with a win that showed a strong team performance from back to front. With all players showing experience well beyond there youthful years to carve out a great result for the Kilcoole based club

 St Anthony’s controlled the ball the ball from the opening whistle, but this didn’t stop Wicklow from carving out the first two chances against the run of play. Rovers Steven Kavanagh latched onto a long ball, but his goal bound effort was well blocked by the defence. Moments later Wicklow managed to win a free kick outside the box, but Jack Neville effort was easily kept out by the opposition net minder.

The Kilcoole side still kept control of the ball , as they did their pressure eventually paid off .There winger cut through the defence and was taken down inside the box. Left back Jack Ryan made his way up to calmly slot the penalty home to give his side a well-deserved thirteenth minute lead.  St Anthony’s second goal came two minutes later as ex St Joseph’s youth Sean Lawless pounced on a long ball to expertly finish into the back of the net from the edge of the box.

The game fell into a lull for the next twenty minutes as Anthony’s controlled the ball . As they did this, they also started to bring on subs . One of these crossed in a ball onto the foot of his teammate Mick Carroll  whose controlled volley flew narrowly wide.

Rovers started to gain a minor foothold in the middle of the park as the game edged towards the break . In added time Wicklow had two goal bound efforts expertly blocked by the defence to keep there lead at the break.

The 2^nd half was a much tighter affair with gaol chances being few and far between as both defences were on top of their opponents. Wicklow first opportunity was a shot in anger from a distance from winger Artur Curran this effort was saved comfortably though .

Wicklow major opportunity to rattle the next came through Curran again but his well-timed volley that was destined for the net was expertly saved by Jordan Murdill in the Antony’s goal. Wicklow kept the pressure on after this chance believing they could make a breakthrough but after a mix up in the Kilcoole sides defence defender Jack Ryan cleared the ball off the line to keep his side two goals to the good.

The second half was a game of chances for both wingers as Carroll managed to get his head on a ball for Antony’s, but his effort narrowly missed the upright . The final chance of the game fell to Carroll again . This time he was thwarted by Jacobs in the Rovers goal.

The Kilcoole outfit held out for what was a well-deserved  win in this very important tie for both sides.

An Tochar second half performance saw them come out on top in what was an enthralling ladies final in Ashford early Sunday morning. From the first whistle one could see this would be a high scoring gain as both sides piled forward at every opportunity.

Barndarrig hit the ground running two goals and a point from there first three attacks as they managed to gain an early advantage. The first score of the game was a white flag coming from the boot of Leonie Buckley before Eabha Siun Furlong and Roisin Stone managed to raise green flags in quick succession. An Tochar opened their account for the day with minor scores from Orla Fee and Marcella Price as the gap was narrowed before the water break.

The second quarter of this final was a much tighter affair with defences holding out for the most part. The only score was another green flag from Furlong again who was causing problems if she got her hands on the ball. An Tochar didn’t manage to trouble the scoreboard

An Tochar made changes at the break and this changed the game in their favour. Niamh Gorman raised a white flag from a dead ball before the game swung completely. Substitute Abby McGee managed to score a goal with her first touch before slotting over two long range frees to narrow the gap. Buckley responded with a point for Barndarrig. An Tochar kept piling on the pressure with Gorman pointing again before McGee notched her second goal. Eva Doyle managed to get her name on the score sheet with a point just before the second water break.

With only a kick of the ball in it going into the final quarter both teams started to make serious dents in the opposition defences as both backlines tired. Doyle added a second point to her tally. The game took another turn with Barndarrig full forward Rachel Murphy firing into the back of the net twice in the space of two attacks against the run of play.  This momentum change didn’t phase the opposition as they then started to pressure the Barndarrig goal. This pressure resulted in a goal and four points with no response from the opposition. Doyle and Gorman added more minors to their tally with McGee adding another long range free and calmly finishing a great team move into the back of the net to swing the tie back in her team’s favour. Gorman added one final score for her side.  With the game nearing its conclusion Murphy added a third goal to her and her sides tally.

Barndarrig did everything they could to level the tie  but the opposition held out for a well-earned victory.

Bray Emmett’s come out on top away to Tinahely in the opening round clash in the Keating cup on Sunday morning.

Tinahely flew out of the blocks on there home patch in this clash with full forward Alan Dillon gathering the ball in the large square and with a swivel of his hips the ball hit the back of the net to open the scoring in this game. The away side responded with a point from county star Paul Cunningham from a tight angle. The home side then added four scores on the bounce with Eoin Darcy opening his account with a free from the top of the d. Dillon added a minor to his tally before Darcy added a free before Tony Darcy added a fourth point on the trot. Bray’s response came from Aaron Murphy who landed a long-range effort before wing back Daire Lohan made his way up the field to dissect the post. Tinahely added two more points from Dillon who added one from play before slotting a free before the first wate break.

After the break Bray narrowed the gap with two frees from Cunningham. Dillon was on fire inside on is home turf adding another two points from play. Lohan and Murphy finished the scoring in the half with Lohan fisting his effort over just before the half time whistle.

With only four points between the side frees became a huge source of scores after the whistle with Dillon notching another free while Brian Walsh made his way up the field before firing over from the twenty-one-yard line. Cunningham’s frees were keeping his side in the game as he added two more place balls. Cathal Magee then managed to narrow the gap for Emmett’s as the game was becoming a much tighter affair. Darcy added yet another free in the quarter. Dillon landed another effort for his side. Cunningham finished the scoring in this quarter with two more place ball which left only a goal between them at the second water break.

The game took a huge swing in the final quarter after substitute Jack Treacy managed to raise a white flag. With only two between the sides Bray piled forward and a goal bound effort dropped short and way palmed into the net by Murphy to give his side the lead against the run of play. The home side levelled the game as Dillon got his final score of the game. With the game level Bray launched another attack.  Dara O hAnnaidh fired an effort towards the goal as it dropped short and somehow landed in the net despite the best efforts of the keeper.  The home side started to pile forward to narrow the gap which Darcy duly did with a place ball. In the final attack they hit the bar and the ball came back out into the square and the home side were awarded a penalty which would have won them the game. Eoin Darcy stepped up to take it, but it was well saved by Paul O’ Keefe in the opposition net to give his side a real smash and grab win in this first round game.

 Avoca came out on top of this battle in the Junior D championship on Friday night under lights in Balinakill.

The first quarter of this tie belonged to Avoca who flew out of the blocks notching 1-3 without reply. In one of the first attacks of the game Avoca weaved there way through the Stratford defence before Dale Moran managed to collect the ball and fire into the net. Midfielder Stephen McAuley made his way up the field to tap over the bar before the same man added a point from a dead ball. Moran added another point this time with a fisted effort.  The opposition eventually responded with a pointed effort from Charles Canning. This was only a slight reprieve as the black and amber side added another point from Moran before full forward James Murray added a second goal just before the water break.

The second quarter was a much tighter affair as Stratford added two more points both coming from the boot of Conor O’ Neill. Avoca responded in kind with two more efforts flying over the black spot. The first came from the ever-green Ger Doyle before that man McAuley added another score.

McAuley opened the scoring in the second half adding to his tally, before the opposition fired four scores in a row to narrow the gap. Two of these were dead balls from O Neill in between a fine long-range effort from Pauric Russell. McAuley kept his sides lead as he added two more points running through the middle. Canning and wing back Thomas Russell finished the scoring with two efforts that dissected the posts before the second water break

The final quarter ended up with both sides adding 3 more points between them. O Neill and McAuley added ones from play and dead balls. Doyle added one last score for the black and amber before Dean Valentine finished the scoring with a consolation effort.

A last gasp goal was enough to see Eire Óg get the better of An Tóchar in the Minor B Championship on Sunday morning in Wicklow.

The opening stages of this game was very evenly matched with both defences coming out on top with scores from play at a premium. An Tóchar opened the scoring in the game with a free from u15 player Éanna Nolan who fired between the posts. Eire Óg responded with another place ball from Oisin Shanahan. The opening score from play came from the boot of Ryan Coleville for Eire Óg whose effort from an angle flew over the bar.  The response from the opposition came from wing back Cameron Brady who made his way up the field to level the game. Eire Óg put pressure on the opposition goal after the levelling score this pressure resulted in two fine points from play. The first coming from midfielder Callum O’ Connor whose long-range effort sailed over the black spot, the second point was from full forward Taylor O’ Sullivan who turned on a sick pence and extended the lead for his side before the first water break.

The second quarter of this battle was much tighter than the first as scores became tougher to get as the battle for the ball in the middle third came to the fore. An Tóchar narrowed the gap with through centre forward Enda Byrne whose cultured effort from a narrow angle managed to dissect the post to narrow the gap. Both sides traded frees before the half time whistle with Nolan and Shanahan equalling each other out.

Both sides still found it difficult to make any headway after the resumption as both sets of defenders were winning their individual battles. That man Nolan added another place ball to level the game as the tension began to rise. Frees were the only way either team could manage to trouble the scoreboard as Shanahan slotted two more frees before the second water break

The final quarter saw the best score of the game from Enda Murphy who scored a point from an angle that deserved to win any game. Moments after this score the game changed as Eire Óg’s corner back made his way up the field. His effort on the posts landed short of a score but as the ball bobbled around Coleville managed to get his boot to the ball to fire into the empty net. The response of this major score was another fine solo effort from Brady again who slalomed his way to fire over the bar. As An Tóchar pushed forward, they lost the ball and on the counter, Darragh Shanahan did the needful for his side as he put the ball calmly between the sticks. The final score of the game was one final place ball from that man Nolan.

An Tóchar couldn’t get that major to level the game as much as they pushed forward Eire Óg held on for the win

Bray used their home advantage to beat Newcastle in their opening round game of the Junior B championship at teatime on Saturday.

Bray took control of  the game from nearly the opening whistle. This control led to the first point of the game through Tim Harrington. Both sides centre forwards then traded place balls. The first came from the boot of Ryan Heffernan for the away side before Niall McGraynor responded in kind. Newcastle roaming wingback Ethan Mackey levelled the scores before McGraynor put his side in the lead this time from play. Shane Cloake scored a point worthy to win any game with an exquisite left footed effort from a narrow angle. Heffernan  struck over  his first from play, with Harrington responding with another white flag. The two free takers McGraynor and Heffernan equalled each other out leaving the score level at the first break.

Bray took control of the next quarter with McGraynor firing over two cultured points from long range to give his side the advantage. Heffernan was doing his best to keep his side in the game with another free to narrow the gap. With the half time whistle moments away Bray’s Nathan Prunty managed to get the first major of the game firing in from close range.

Newcastle pushed forward after the getting three points in a row the first coming from the newly married centre back Sean Ryder, before his half back colleague Ciaran Doyle added a second white flag. The third point came from sub–John Paul Kelly who made an immediate impact with a long-range effort. Bray’s response was a fine effort pointed effort from Harrington again. This score was against the run of play as Newcastle kept the pressure on this led to them winning a penalty, which was duly converted by Robert O Gara to level the game. The final score before the second water break was a cultured finished from Donnchadh O’Mideach who gave his side the lead again.

The home side kept the opposition scoreless to see out the game while they added the last two scores from the boots of that man Harrington again before Prunty finished the scoring with a well timed point on the final whistle

 Dunlavin took the spoils in the 1^st round of the Junior B Championship under lights in Balinakill last Friday night.

After the opening few minutes of this game it was clear that the underfoot conditions were going to cause both sides problems. Scores were at a premium with both sides cancelling each other out.

St Pats opened the scoring when Gerry Connors latched onto a loose ball to tap over the first point of the game. His centre forward counterpart notched his sides first score moments later. Both full forwards opened their accounts with the Pats man George O’ Brien firing over two frees in quick succession. Dunlavin sharpshooter Jack Reid did like wise for his side with two more frees to level the game at the first water break.

Dunlavin took complete control of the game after the first break firing 1-5 with only a point in response from the opposition. Reid added a third free before Mark Rigley raised a white flag after some great interplay. Conor Deering raised a green flag firing into the net from close range. Reid shooting came to the fore with two more well taken frees before opening his account from play. Pats consolation score before half time came from another place ball from O’ Brien.

The break didn’t help Pats whatsoever with Dunlavin firing over three more scores in a row after the break. Reid’s masterclass of frees carried on with yet another this was inbetween points from Timmy Metcalfe and Shane Carty who added his second score of the game. O’ Brien responded again with another dead ball before James Kelly slotted the final point before the 3^rd break.

Pats made a big change at the last whistle to try adding more scores. This change worked a treat with Andy O’ Brien moving from full back into the forward line. He added a white flag nearly immediately before Dunlavin’s Kelly added his second before Thomas Kelly finished their scoring. The last few minutes was the O’ Brien show with him scoring another 1-1. The goal was well finished after he made his way past 3 or 4 defenders. He added one more consolation point before the final whistle.

The first round of the Junior C Championship took place up in Balinakill on Thursday night. Anyone in attendance witnessed a tight tense affair between two evenly matched sides.

Kilcoole flew out of the blocks from the first whistle scoring a goal within the opening few minutes, when wing forward Patrick Woods drove down the wing and fired the ball into the net. Wing back Darren Bourke added there first white flag to extended Kilcoole lead. Eoin Byrne responded for Kiltegan before his teammate Joey Maher added his sides second score to narrow that gap. Conor Scullion extended Kilcoole lead with the first free of the game before the first water break.

 Kiltegan notched there first free of the game through there centre forward Anthony Furlong before Kilcoole’s Jason Walsh added a second free for his side before Kiltegan kicked into gear. They scored 1-2 with no response before the half time whistle. Darren Hobson rifled into the back of the net for his side before he added a point from play. Furlong notched his second point this time a long-range effort from play to extend his sided lead before the break.

Kilcoole opening to the second half was nearly a carbon copy to the first as they made the umpire raise the green flag for a second time. This time Jonathan Maguire finished well after some patient build up play. Joey Maher and Coady traded white flags from play. Hobson added another point to his and his sides tally before Eoin Byrne slotted between the posts. As the game tensed up just before the water break. An off the ball scuffle led to players being sent off on both sides. Furlong for Kiltegan and his counterpart Tyrone Houlahan. Leaving the narrowest of margins going into the final quarter.

Hobson slotted over his sides final score of the game with a pointed free after the water break. Kilcoole now two points down piled forward, they managed to level the score Peter O’ Brien, before James Scullion levelled the game with the final point of the game.

In what was a repeat of one of last year’s u13 D plate final that was played in June in Ballymoney. Avoca did the needful by winning out in this final by the narrowest of margins.

The team in black and gold made a flying start scoring 1-2 without reply before the first water break. Conor Daly got the first goal with Luke Purser 45 dropping into the net, Darragh Harper notched a point. 

Avoca got another goal and point from Jack Power. Barndarrig finally kicked into gear notching 1-4 before the half time whistle. The goal coming from Jack Nolan who added a point before Daniel Jones and John Murray narrowed the gap.

Both sides powered forward after the whistle with Power getting another green flag and Lucas Reid adding a free. The opposition added three points from DJ Williams before Daniel Jones added a free and one from play.

The last quarter was a much tighter affair with Reid notching a 2^nd dead ball to extend the lead to 7 for Avoca. Barndarrig’s final 2 scores were both major’s from Colcough Byrne and Daniel Jones. Avoca kept them out for the last few attacks to win by a point

Blessington outclassed Roundwood in what was a very enjoyable final to watch at noon on Sunday in Balinakill.

From the opening whistle Blessington powered forward hitting 5 points in response to Roundwood’s solitary reply. The scores came from Jamie O’ Toole, Cillian Behan, Daniel Smith and 2 from Ciaran Butler who hit a dead ball and from play. The response was a free from Jack Leacy. After the break there was 2-2 with no response. Butler adding 2-1 of the tally with the point from James McCarney.

After the whistle both sides fired into the net with Jack Murray extending the lead before O’ Toole narrowed the gap with another dead ball. Roundwood goal came from an attempted block by the opposition which ended in the net to help narrow the score line again before the 2^nd water break. From that 2^nd break to the end the last two consolation points were frees from Roundwood’s Evan Rooney.

Blessington held out to the final whistle to win by 9.

Aughrim couldn’t get there second win in two weeks in the Junior A championship against Blessington on Saturday evening.

Both defences came out on top in what was a cagy opening couple of attacks from both sides. With scores from play at a premium, frees were the only way either side could get on the board. Sean Price opened Blessington tally with a dead ball before Conor Phelan responded with two dead balls for Aughrim. The ref then awarded a penalty to Aughrim, it was duly dispatched into the net by wing back Dan O’ Hare. Blessington responded with two points from play through Jordan Nolan and wing back Ethan Cotter to narrow the gap before the first water break.

After the break Blessington went on a scoring spree up until half time notching five points in a row. The scores coming from Jordan Nolan, full back Ciaran Mescall Price with another dead ball before Ruairi Finan fired over a great team play. Centre back Aaron Curran made his way up the field to slot over another point. Aughrim solitary response was another free from Phelan just before the half time whistle.

Both sides traded scores after the break. Adam Keegan opened Aughrim account from play, before Cotter added his second score. Conor Lambert kept up Aughrim scoring from play with another white flag, Michael O’ Toole added two dead balls in response.  With the forwards from both sides starting to get on top of their opponents Keegan added another point with Fisher doing the same for Blessington. With the game heading towards the 2^nd water break Aughrim piled forward, the ball landed in the hands of Dean Newsome who fired high into the roof of the net.

Directly after the final break Michael O’ Toole managed to evade his marker and bury the ball low into the corner of the Aughrim net. Sub Bryan Carroll extended the lead for Blessington.  With the game heading towards the final whistle Conor Lambert added three more points for Aughrim with O Toole replying every time for Blessington whether from dead balls or play.

These responses endure that Blessington would come out on top in this classic championship encounter.

St Pats come out on top in a highly entertaining u14 final in Ashford at lunchtime Saturday.

Bray flew out of the blocks early in this game getting a goal from one of their first attacks of the game through Nancy Harty who showed composure to finish into the net from close range. St Pats responded moments later with a goal from a penalty from Millie Phelan. With defences on top scores were at a premium. The final score before the first break was a point from the boot of Niamh Redmond. After the break Pats launched attacks on the goal. This led to a white flag from Ella Lyons, before a goal bound effort from Millie Leonard was deflected into the net. The Emmetts got two points before half time from Melanie Lawlor and Redmond again.

The 2nd half of this game was a tight tense affair with very little scoring. Pats last two white flags of the game came from Phelan before Hannah Lawless got her name to the scorers. Kimberly Kennedy slotted a dead ball for Bray. With the last attack of the game Bray won a spot kick, which if they had scored would have given them the win. The kick was saved well by Wicklow keeper Ella Murphy. Who was her team’s hero in the last play of the game.

Carnew came out on top of what was a high scoring final in Avoca at noon on Saturday.

The Emmets opened the scoring with Sylvo Pekarick before Kilcoole fired 1-2 in response with 1-1 coming from Lucas O’ Toole and the other point came from the boot of Jayden Hamilton. Carnew emulated the scoring amount with Jamie Curry scoring 1-1 before a free from Daniel Lawrence gave them the lead at the first whistle.

Nathan Sharpe buried a goal to extend the lead before Curry added another white flag. Adam O’ Brien fried a point over in response. Lawrence and Sharpe added two more points, before 1-1 in response with O’ Brien narrowing the gap. The lead was extended again with another major this time from Cathal Faulkner

Lawrence and Peckarick added another 1-2 with Daniel getting 1-1 of this tally. Kilcoole response was a point from Cillian Corcoran before the 2^nd water break. The final quarter was a one-sided affair with Carnew adding another 1-5 to there scoring with 1 point in response from the opposition with Corcoran adding another point to his name. Ashford outscore Avondale to win the u11 final early Saturday morning in Avoca.

Ashford started as they meant to go on from the opening whistle scoring 1-3 without any reply before the first water break.  Tiernan O’ Connell raised the first white flag before Rian Gledhill and Kale Conyard added points. The first major of the game came from Jude Lawlor before the whistle to close the first quarter.

The 2nd quarter carried on in the same vein with the black and ambers adding three more white flags through Conyard and Gledhill again while Alex Healy opened his account. Avondale responded with Will Phelan opening there scoring with a minor before Eoghan Doyle added a second minor.

The third quarter was another score fest from Ashford with another 1-5 being added to there total. The goal came from Gledhill, with the same man adding another minor score along with Rhys Behan and Lucas Lally. Conyard finished the scoring with a fine long-range score. Matt Byrne responded in kind with a point for the opposition. Healy notched the final score of the quarter for Ashford.

The final stages of this game were much more enjoyable with both sides trying to equal each other out. Ashford added another 3 majors and a point in response to 3 consolation points for Avondale.

Anyone that was in attendance in Roundwood late Sunday evening witnessed history with Coolkenno fielding a senior ladies team in the championship for the 1^st time.

For a team playing there first game they showed experience well beyond what they should have by beating the home side easily in very miserable conditions.

Cookenno captain Amey Bermingham opened her sides account with a well taken point. Noelle Conlon doubled her sides lead before full forward Rebecca Bowes fired over before centre forward got her hands on the ball after some fine interplay to add a 4^th score before the water break.

Straight from the water break Conlon got her hands on the kickout and ran straight towards the goal, before firing a great shot into the back of the net to extend her sides lead.  Bermingham who was controlling the game in the middle added her 2^nd point of the game. With the game nearing the half time interval Bowes slotted one last score before the break.

The 2nd half of this encounter was nearly a carbon copy of the first with Coolkenno controlling the ball and their defence coming out on top at every opportunity. Bowes was causing trouble inside at every opportunity. She added another point before wing forward Ruby Keogh drove through the middle of the opposition defence, this drive resulted her into rifling the ball into the back of the net. Bermingham midfield partner Erica Dugge pointed just before the 2^nd water break.

The home side finally managed to open their account in the game with a free Orla Fee before Bermingham replied with a dead ball for Coolkenno. The final score of the game was a consolation point for Roundwood from the boot of sub-Hannah Kelly.

Sunday evening saw the opening round of the Junior A football championship take centre stage in Roundwood, with Aughrim coming out on top in a game played in some very wet conditions.

Both sides made some late changes to the program with players been unavailable due to injury or having played for the club’s other team in the grade above.

Aughrim flew out of the traps with full froward Conor Phelan tapping over an early point from play, before slotting a free to double the scores. Corner forward Adam Keegan let fly for a point from long range, this effort ended up in the back of the net instead.

This early flurry of scored from Aughrim had let them gain a foothold in the game. Hollywood slowly started to ply with full forward James Mooney firing over a free in anger. Conor Lambert then added his name to the score sheet for Aughrim with a well taken curling shot.

With the game heading towards the water break Hollywood launched one final attack, this lead to James Mooney getting his foot to a ball , which resulted in a goal. Leaving only 2 between them at the first break.

After the break Aughrim kept their foot on the pedal notching 4 scores without reply, the first coming from midfielder Eoin Forsyth.

Ex Wexford youth soccer player Adan Rochford weaved his way through the defence before pointing. Phelan added another free before Lambert slotted another monster from play. Hollywood solitary response came from another free from Mooney. This left 5 between the sides at the interval.

Hollywood broke out of the traps quicker in the 2^nd half getting the first two scores both coming from place balls from Mooney who was now giving an exhibition on free taking with both feet.

Aughrim then hit another purple patch with another four unanswered scores. Roving wing back Dan O’ Hare made his way up the field to fire over. The next three scores all came from the boot of the goal scorer Adam Keegan, this extended the gap to 6 by the 2^nd water break.

The final quarter was a much tighter affair as both sides started to empty their benches. This didn’t stop Phelan poking home a 2^nd goal for Aughrim. Mooney and Phelan then traded points, before Hollywood sub-Ciaran Maguire was giving his marching orders for a wild kick out at an Aughrim player.

The final score of the game for Aughrim came from Dean Newsome whose effort flew high into the net.  Hollywood got a consolation score through that man Mooney who added one final point from play.

Trim Celtic came out on top in an end to end cup match Enniskerry on Sunday morning.

The home side who were playing with a strong breeze in the first half couldn’t judge the breeze at all for the opening attacks of the game as all their efforts ended up in the arms of the Trim shot stopper.

It wasn’t until the 10^th minute till either side fired off a shot in anger. Trim’s Brian Faulkner let fly from the edge of the box, his effort was well saved by Dylan Davenport in the home sides goal. Davenport managed to save a free kick minutes later before he made a 3^rd great save in as many minutes as he thwarted a 1 on 1 as the Trim striker tried to round him and put the ball into an empty net.

The home side were quickly kicked into gear after the flurry of saves. Captain Paul Barr’s curling effort just missed the angle of post and crossbar. Trim then took the lead with what was nearly a carbon copy of the home sides last effort.

Winger Jack O Keefe cut in off his wing and unleashed a curling effort with flew over Davenport head before ending up in the net, to give the away side the slenderest of advantages 20 minutes into the first half.

After a very exciting opening twenty minutes the game descended into a bit of a lull with both midfields battling hard, with no one making any real in roads into the opposition scoring zone.  The home side could still not manage that swirling breeze. This was evident as both long range shots they had from midfielders flew over the bar , without causing any trouble to the Trim net minder .

With the ref about to blow the half time whistle Trim launched one final attack, which resulted in the ball ending up in the back of the net. Luckily for Enniskerry they were saved by the linesman flag, leaving the minimum between the sides at the break.

The home side changed their tactics early in the 2^nd half going from a 4-4-2 to a 3-5-2. This change proved pivotal as they started to create more chances. Sub Paul O’ Reilly nearly made an immediate impact, but his header flew over the bar. The home side kept control of the ball very well against that breeze but couldn’t break down the Trim rear-guard.

This all changed in the 73 minute when a cross from Gavin Howard landed at the feet of Karl Mulligan who rifled a left footed drive from the angle of the box into the top corner of the net.  The home side created two more chances after this but couldn’t manage to land that 2^nd goal.

In the closing stages  the away side started to push forward creating chances every time the got near the box. They had a free well blocked down before Faulkner let rip with another curling effort which was brilliantly saved by Davenport again. With the final play of normal time, Trim were awarded a corner.

It was 3^rd time lucky for Faulkner who rose highest in the crowded penalty area to beat Davenport, who had kept him at bay up to the header.  Enniskerry launched two final attempts on the Trim goal, but try as they might  they couldn’t find that equalising goal.
