AGB 2-9
Baltinglass 1-12

Pearse’s Park
A fiery end to end encounter from the opening whistle made this Junior
B championship game one well worth watching
Baltinglass got off to a
flying start straight from the throw in hitting an early score from play
through wing forward Jack Fleming before midfielder Jamie McTiernan burst
through from midfield before splitting the posts with a fine effort. Then a
turning point came in the half when AGB corner back David Kenny was giving his
marching orders with a second yellow card.
AGB hit their first score in anger through wing forward Jack D’Arcy who
fired over after a great solo run through the opposition defence. The away side
then hit over two quick fire dead balls through corner forward Jason Sinnott.
The home side were kept in the game through that wing forward D’Arcy who hit
two more scores from the play the 2nd been audacious attempt off his
wrong side that dissected the post.
Baltinglass then hit a purple patch scoring 1-5 without reply. Full forward Tony Keely hit the opening score
of this with a point from play, before corner forward Conor Foley fired the
ball over the black spot twice in quick succession the first coming from play
before he fired over a dead ball. Keely slotted over another before Keely put
the ball into the AGB net with a palmed finished from the edge of the
square. Wing back Chris Grimes won a
ball from a kick out played a quick one two before firing over a long range
score to finish off the half. Giving the away side a 9 point lead at the break.
Whatever was side to the home side at the break
certainly worked. They came
out of the blocks very quickly with full forward Alan
McBride starting the
scoring with a long range free, before the game completely
turned with two
goals in quick succession the first coming after a
great team move which was
finished to the net by Mark Fitzgerald. Arklow then
won a penalty which was
nicely put away by Wing forward David O Neil. Sub Ciaran O Reilly got his first
score of the game with a nice close in score,
Baltinglass knew they had to
respond which they did first through Keely again from
play before goalkeeper
Will Rogers made his way up the field to slot a long
range free. D’Arcy got his
name on the score sheet again before sub Richie Neary
fired over. With the
game now in the melting pot AGB went all out attack
and managed to win a
free out near the sideline and after some indiscipline
from Baltinglass the free
was moved right in near the goal which sub O Reily
duly slotted to level the
match. With the game in its dying embers the
aforementioned Keely got his
hands on the ball and made his way along the end line
and fisted the ball over
the bar. AGB made one last burst to level the game the
ball ended up in the
hands of midfielder Donal O Keefe out near the 45
which he managed to put
over to level the game.
