History was made up the Windy Gap when Shane Finnerty’s thirteen points helped Lahardane win their first game at home in eight seasons.
It was an ideal start for the home as Adrian Leonard split the posts early on before midfielders first Eoin Fergus to fire over a two pointer before Kyran Jordan added another. The visitors did the same kicking up the hill. Oisin Lally opened the scoring before Pearce O’Malley and then Dylan Prendergast had the sides level at half time.
On the quarter hour mark the west Mayo side had taken the lead after a Finnerty free flew over. A controlled effort from Ray Prendergast before Dylan P had his side level.
The next quarter of the game became a shootout between both captains and sharpshooters. Finnerty had swung the tide back to his side with three dead balls before Prendergast raised yet another orange flag to level the tie.
On the stroke of half time Louisburgh took the lead when Tommy Morohan opened his account from play.
Once the game resumed Morohan added a score to his tally before Finnerty had the tie level with another long range free.A effort from play from Prendergast had his side in the lead seven minutes into the half. Another double from Finnerty first a fine effort from play and another dead ball had swung the momentum back in his side's favour, another score from Leonard put them two ahead after twelve minutes.
By the quarter hour mark the gap was down to the minimum when Martin Ball split the posts from an angle .
Playing up the hill and into the mountains was suiting Finnerty as he put his side two up inside the last ten minutes.
Just as it looked like the Machales were going to pull away but up stepped Ray Prendergast to intercept a ball from the goalie to raise the first green flag of the game. It looked like the east Mayo side were going to pull away but two more Finnerty two point frees made sure his side would come away with the points on Sunday afternoon.
