Roundup 26th -28th September
In
what was a quiet weekend before history is made this weekend here is a brief
roundup of what happened in the Wicklow district this weekend.
There
were a number of National cup fixtures at all age groups from U12 -U16. Here is
the list of results of some of these fantastic results for the Wicklow sides
involved.
With
so many cup games we will briefly give a report from a different club each
weekend so here is one of the victorious Wicklow sides against Portlaoise.

We
began the game as the stronger side, dictating possession and tempo through a
confident and controlled midfield display. Early pressure nearly paid off when
Tom Donohoe rattled the woodwork with a powerful effort, signalling our intent
to take the lead. The breakthrough came shortly after, thanks to excellent
link-up play. Finn Savage picked out the perfectly timed run of Jacob Harbott,
who showed plenty of composure to slot the ball past the goalkeeper and make it
1–0.
Despite
our dominance, Portlaoise responded well and grew into the contest as half-time
approached. A lapse in concentration at the back allowed one of their forwards
to break through and finish a superb solo effort, levelling the score at 1–1
just before the interval.
The
second half proved tense, physical, and evenly matched, with both sides pushing
hard in search of a winner. We continued to look the more threatening outfit,
pressing high up the pitch and moving the ball with purpose. With only five
minutes left on the clock, Portlaoise won a corner and applied late pressure,
but our defence held firm and cleared the danger. From that clearance, Aidan
Mitchell produced a clever pass to release Harbott once more. The striker
stayed calm under pressure and finished clinically to restore our lead at 2–1.
That
late goal proved decisive. Despite a spirited finish from the hosts, we
remained disciplined and saw out the game to claim a deserved victory. Every
player contributed with determination, teamwork, and heart. A sincere thank you
to Portlaoise for their warm hospitality and refreshments afterwards, which
were greatly appreciated by all involved.
