Mayo native Ryan Baynes played a key part on Saturday evening as Ballyboden St Enda’s battled past a determined Athy outfit to claim the Leinster Club Championship title at Croke Park. Having transferred to the Dublin side in recent seasons, Baynes said the win carried real pride and plenty of relief.
“Delighted to get over the line really in Leinster,” he said afterwards. “It’s new territory after the Dublin Championship, and there’s a lot of pressure on Dublin clubs with their history. There are great teams in it who can trip you up.”
Athy pushed Ballyboden all the way, and Baynes noted that his side were well prepared for the challenge. “We knew they were going to be strong, but delighted now to finish it off.”
The setting made the victory sweeter. “Nice to win in Croker as well,” he added, praising the tight bond within the squad that has helped him settle seamlessly into his new club.
