Kilcoole 0-14

A late Billy Molloy save meant both sides would come away from Arklow with a point on Sunday afternoon.
Playing against the aid of a strong breeze in the opening half it was Carnew who got off to the better start, going two points ahead inside three minutes with efforts from John and Jack Gregan. By the fifth minute the tie was level as Luke Evans and sharpshooter Willie Cash had fired over for the opposition. The next ten minutes of this tie saw Gregan and Cash trade frees before Emmets center back John Young drove over an effort from just inside the opposition half. Kilcoole were causing trouble when the ball went inside as another Cash dead ball was cancelled out by Conor Byrne. It was then with less than ten minutes left on the clock that the Goosebank men hit their purple patch with Evans firing over from play before a long range placed ball, this was in between a cultured strike from Sean Byrne. With the game in the melting pot and tensions getting higher both sides were reduced to fourteen men when Charlie Frawley and Brandon Rossiter were both sent to the line in the same incident. Just before the half-time whistle Gregan narrowed the gap with another free before Cash slotted over from play. This left two between the sides at the break with Carnew having the breeze in the second half.
Within a minute of the restart the gap was down to the minimum when Richard Greene raised a white flag. A pair of frees from Evans and Cash had extended Kilcoole lead to three within five minutes. It was now clearly turning into a shootout between Gregan and Cash as both split the posts with frees for their side just as we reached the midway point of the half.
Just as it looked like the green and gold were going to pull away up stepped the aforementioned Gregan to add three more to his tally for the day two from frees with the other coming from open play.
With ten minutes left on the clock Larry Kinsella had his side in the lead before Greene extended the margin with eight left. As the full time whistle loomed it was the turn of Evans to narrow the gap again. In the next attack and with a minute to go Cash broke through the defense but his goal bound effort was well kept out by Billy Molloy in the goal resulting in a sixty- five which was put wide. In the final play of the game Cash was awarded a free which he slotted over leaving the sides level at the final whistle.
