What
a start to the tournament for the southeast side as they beat their Connacht
opponents in an eight-goal thriller.
From
the outset of this tournament Kilkenny looked like they could score at will
this was clearly the case. The first player to rattle the net was Tommy Moloney
before Tom Hoyne and Terry Renwick added to the tally in between goals from the
Roscommon side. This very open game was
a sight to behold and so was the Kilkenny performance as Enoch Komakech opened
his account for the tournament and gain three points for his side.

In
their second game of the competition the black and amber did light work of
their midland’s opponents firing in seven goals.
After
a great first performance this young Kilkenny side managed to net seven goals
in this game with Enoch Komakech doubling his tally for the tournament. His
strike patent Conal Kelly then got in on the act adding two his tally.
The
last three goals came from Renwick before Max O’ Neill and
Jonathan
O. Akaehomen added a seventh goal for this free scoring side.

This
was one of the most dominant performances of Thursday in Galway as Kilkenny
produced some fine attacking football to beat out comfortable five goal
winners.
The
side from the southeast burst out of the blocks early, piling pressure on the
Limerick goal at every opportunity. After a couple of early efforts on goal
Conal Kelly eventually opened the scoring twelve minutes into the match. As
half time got closer, they managed to double their tally with Tommy Moloney and
Enoch Komakech putting three between the sides at half time.
The
second half was much the same for Kilkenny as they emptied the bench during the
second half. One of their subs, Charlie Carter, made an immediate impact,
firing in two goals inside the last ten minutes for his side.

From
start to finish Kilkenny managed to pressure the Donegal opposition high this
eventually paid off with three well taken goals.
On
Friday afternoon Kilkenny produced a high-pressure game against their Donegal opponents.
This high press worked from the kickoff as they created a couple of half
chances before they eventually broke through when Conal Kelly found the back of
the net. The opposition battled back into the game and managed to break through
a couple of times before half time, but Kilkenny stood strong as they kept the
lead up until half time.
From
the restart the southeast side kept on the pressure looking for that elusive
second goal which they eventually managed to get with fifteen minutes to go
when striker Enoch Komakech unleashed a strike into the net. The game looked
over as a contest when James Tierney’s controlled effort from a cross found its
way into the back of the net.

In a
repeat of their first game of the tournament Kilkenny managed to win the cup
with a four-goal victory with two goals coming from both strikers.
From
the outset of this tie Kilkenny looked well in control and found the net with
their first chance of the game when Enoch Komakeach expertly finished into the
net. Chances were flowing for the black and amber as they had a free well saved
before another effort flew over the bar. Just before halftime Enoch produced
two more moments of magic as he assisted Conal Kelly twice to give his side a three-goal
lead at the break.
After
the interval it was much the same as Enoch broke away from in the opening play
to double his tally for the day. The
eventual cup winners netted for a fifth time after Komakech hat trick effort
was denied but eventually turned in by Tommy Moloney. The opposition did narrow
the gap with a penalty with four minutes to go.
After
the final whistle we get the thoughts of victorious manager Keith Renwick who
explains how “ the team have produced some very good performances during the
week and have finally clicked together just at the right time to win the
competition.”
He
believes that “ everything had fallen into place at the right and this side
have produced some fantastic football during the competition and have clearly
learned from their experience in Galway.”

Kilkenny
got the better of this southeast derby by the odd goal in seven to open up
their account in the Galway Cup Tuesday afternoon.
What
an amazing performance from this young Kilkenny side as they produced some
great goals from the start of the competition. Their first goal was netted
early in the contest when Michael Beagen broke through to give his side an
early lead. Once they had led it was never relinquished as they netted two more
goals before the interval with Michael Ormond and Aedan Sumner opening their
accounts for the tournament.
After
the break it was much the same as the Kilkenny side created and broke through
with Sam Antonessa and Sumner doubling his tally early in the tournament. The
Wicklow opposition netted two late goals through Rian Ward and Will Carey just
before halftime.

The
side from the southeast got the better of a highly fancied northern side on
Wednesday evening.
Both
sides in this time had produced some great football and they kept up with some
great attacking play. It was the
southeast side who eventually took the lead when Dara Kavanagh smashed an
effort into the back of the net.
After
they took the early lead, the opposition battled back control and leveled the
tie with a Roger Allen effort before half time.
Once
the game restarted it was Kilkenny who took control of the tie again, the tie
ended as a contest when Aedan Sumner rattled the back of the net.

It
was a five-star performance on Thursday morning as the league side got the
better of their Limerick opponents.
After
a tough second game Thursday’s game was much easier for the league side. They
created chances from the first minute. It wasn't until eight minutes when Dara
Kavanagh found the back of the net. As the half went on the black and amber
looked well in control as they doubled the lead when Aedan Summer slotted under
the onrushing keeper.
The
rest of the game turned into the Sam Antonessa show as he netted a hat trick to
ensure victory for his side to finish top of the group.

After
missing two penalties at normal time, it was the third time lucky for Finn
Harps as they won on penalties against Kilkenny.
It
was Kilkenny who started this semifinal stronger creating a number of early chances,
but their free kick went wide before a counterattack was well defended by the
opposition. Their pressure eventually told when Oisin Doyle controlled a cross
to finish well past the net minder. Finn Harps battled back and only for a
great save from Micheál Beagan kept his side in front at the break.
Once
the ref began the second half Harps gained control and won a penalty. The first
effort was saved, it had to be retaken which was put over the bar. Chances were
few and far between as the game went on. With a couple of minutes to go Harps
launched an attack which fell to Oisin O’ Donnell who managed to level the tie
and send it to penalties.

It
wasn't to be for the Kilkenny side as they were eventually beaten with two
first half by one of the home county sides.
In a
tough tense battle Kilkenny seemed to have the upper hand early on in this 3rd
place game but the Galway side stuck for goal early on through Ronan Keating
before Ty Finnerty doubled the lead The
southeast side did battle back to their credit as the tie went on creating a
number of chances before half time but couldn't find a leveler.
When
the game resumed it was much the same as the COE stood strong not allowing much
get through their defense. Kilkenny eventually took shots from tight angles and
from free kicks.
A fourth-place
finish was just a reward for this young side.

Philip Trehy gives us his thoughts after the final whistle on Saturday.
“The boys did very well throughout the
tournament we were delighted the way they played good football in every game as
they trained hard pre tournament.”
Philp
also believed his side” were very unlucky to be beaten in the semi final. So overall we were delighted they way the
boys applied themselves.”
Looking
to the future 2024/25 season Trehy explains how they are
“all
looking forward now to the Kennedy cup next June in Limerick”
