Anyone in attendance in Pearse Park wouldn’t have thought they were attending a senior b final in Wicklow as Gaelcholaiste Na Mara bet local rivals East Glendalough by 5 points.
It was the away side who opened the scoring first before Charlie Meirtneach rattled in the opening goal of the game
inside the first seven minutes. Both sides traded with frees then with captain
Brian Ó hUrthuile splitting the posts from range. The Wicklow town side then
managed to goal against the run of play before that man Meirtneach fired into
the net for the second time in the game. The home side defence were holding out
well with the youngest player on the pitch Jack O’ Diomsaigh showing experience beyond his years. Dylan Ó Leannáín finished off the scoring for the
Arklow side leaving them two points up at the interval.
It was East Glendalough that flew out of the blocks at the beginning of
the half firing over four points in a row in between a solitary response from Dylan
Ó Leannáín again. It was the home side
that wrestled back control of the tie with scores from Ó hUrthuile , Seosamh O’ Caoindealbháin, and Meirtneach with an
outrageous score from underneath the stand .
With the game in the melting pot raised the final white flag before Fenn
Ó hUallacháin burst through the middle too
put two points between the sides. The
final score of the game finished the tie of completely as Meirtneach raised
a final green flag as to ensure his sides five point win.
