The 1st round of the Wicklow senior hurling championship took place last Tuesday night in Arklow between age old rivals Kiltegan and Eire Óg.

The first of these points coming from nimble corner forward James Cranley, before wing forward Nathan Unwin added another score from long range. Kiltegan responded with three points the first a fine long range point from centre forward Eoghan Byrne. Both defences then equalled each other out for the next few phases of play before Kiltegan wing forward Seanie Germaine slotted a free over the bar before midfielder Padraig O Toole fired Kiltegan into a lead with a fine point from play. Cranley responded with a free to level the game.  Geramine fired two more points over the bar the first coming from a free before hitting a 65 over. With the game heading towards the break Eire óg fired over the last two points of the half. Cranley added another free, before midfielder Peter Keane got the last score of the half to level the score at half time.

Whatever was said to both sides at half time definitely made for a better game. With scores coming  thick and fast from the word go.  Kiltegan hit the opening score of the half through corner forward Mark Murphy. The two dead ball specialists then traded scores Cranley slotting a free over before Germaine responded in kind. Eire óg managed to nudge themselves ahead again with three more quick fire scores , Unwin firing over again before corner forward Hugh O Neil firing over after some fine interplay. Anthony Byrne won a puck out and put the ball straight back over the black spot. Germaine responded with another dead ball. Byrne fired over another for Eire Óg. Rory Finn then hit over a ball from near the sideline for Kiltegan.  Those two specialists got on the score sheet again twice in succession. Cranley hitting a great score from play  over his shoulder before, that man Germaine  fired over another free.  Cranley hit yet another free before Germaine responded yet again.   Padraig O Toole managed to  split  the posts after been moved into the full forward line. With the game in the melting pot Eire óg managed to hit the first goal of the game coming from sub Danny Nolan who managed to get his hurl to the sliotar as it was bobbling around the square. Germaine hit Kiltegan final score from yet another 65. Eire óg finished the game with a flurry of scores. The aforementioned Unwin fired over again. Cranley fired over two more dead balls.
